The first annual Chesterfield County School District's Employee of the Year Banquet was held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Palmetto Learning Center, celebrating the outstanding contributions of our Employees of the Year from each location. The evening culminated in the special recognition of Mr. Michael Maguire as Chesterfield County School District’s 2025-2026 Employee of the Year.

With 20 years of dedicated service, Michael began his career as a Computer Technician, quickly earning a reputation for his technical expertise, professionalism, and reliability. His contributions helped create the Network Engineer role, a position he and the late Mike Shuler pioneered, becoming affectionately known as the "M & M Boys" for their critical role in building the district’s IT foundation.

Today, as Lead Network Engineer, Michael continues to work tirelessly behind the scenes—keeping networks running, security systems online, and solving problems before they arise. His deep knowledge, steady hand, and quiet dedication have made him a trusted and invaluable part of our district.
Michael Maguire exemplifies the best of Chesterfield County School District. Congratulations, Michael, and thank you for being the heartbeat of our digital world!

Agricultural education students from Chesterfield High School and Cheraw High School had a unique learning experience as they toured the Horticultural Program at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, North Carolina on April 10th.

Over 30 students, accompanied by their agricultural education instructors spent the day exploring the college’s expansive 32 acre gardens, greenhouses, and state-of-the-art horticultural facilities. The visit offered students an in-depth look at career pathways in horticulture, landscaping, greenhouse management, and plant science.

Agriculture teachers Rand Thomas and Jesse McGee agreed that the tour was a tremendous opportunity for students to see what’s possible beyond high school.

The Horticultural Program at Sandhills Community College is widely recognized for its focus on real-world training, preparing students for successful careers in the green industry. With specialized programs and certifications available, it continues to attract aspiring horticulturists from across the region.

The visit is part of a broader effort by both Chesterfield and Cheraw High Schools to expose students to post-secondary education options and to help build a strong foundation in agricultural sciences — a field critical to the economy and the environment.

A big shoutout to our amazing assistant principals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support students, staff, and our school community. Your leadership, dedication, and positivity make a huge difference every single day.

Superintendent Weaver received the attached letter and press release from South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, who asked for the Department’s help in alerting district and school personnel to some growing threats in the online exploitation of children. These online actors encourage students to produce violent/graphic content and often encourage self-harm and suicide.
CCSD has shared his letter with our school staff , school resource officers, teachers, and now with our parents/guardians, as it will require everybody working together to keep each of our students safe from online predators. The Attorney General’s office stands ready to provide follow-up resources, training, and support to any school district who may need it.

Four Chesterfield County School District teachers have been named finalists for the District’s Teacher of the Year, which will be announced at the Teacher of the Year Banquet on May 8, 2025. Janice Graham of Chesterfield-Ruby Middle, Candice Godfrey of Plainview Elementary, Laura Lovelace of McBee High, and Brenda Drye of Central High were chosen from among the 17 school-level Teacher of the Year winners.
