District announces new Teacher of the Year

Though the annual teacher of the year banquet had to be canceled due to Covid-19. On September 15, 2020, minutes before the start of a staff development, Superintendent Dr. Harrison Goodwin arrived at Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School with roses and balloons in hand to surprise and announce Mrs. Jeya John as the 2020-2021 Chesterfield County School District Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. John, a math teacher at Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School, was chosen as the Teacher of the Year from among the district's 16 schools. Mrs. John, arriving to Chesterfield County in 2005 from India, stated, “With only two suitcases and a dream, God planted me in Chesterfield County. My mind was full of anxiety, concern, nervousness and anticipation. I was blessed by the warm hearts and compassion of the school district and a culture that I soon called home.”  Mrs. John will now go on to compete for the state Teacher of the Year.
