Cheraw Intermediate Awarded Math Grant

CIS teachers worked with Jessica Griffin, the math coach at CIS, to develop the winning proposal. This grant is awarded to only one elementary school in the nation each year. Titled, "Weaving Through The Standards," the proposal was based on multiple years of student performance data and collaboration among the teachers to identify an area of needed improvement in mathematics.

For this project, CIS math teachers will engage in in-service trainings which focus on the interconnectedness of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM) measurement standards among other domain standards within each grade level. Teachers will begin connecting and bringing coherence to multiple concepts and processes taught within each grade level's CCSSM. Following these trainings, teachers will develop engaging, measurement embedded, performance tasks which require students to use learned content effectively.

The Mathematics Education Trust channels contributions through the creation and funding of grants, awards, honors, and other projects that support the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning. The MET School In-Service Training Grant is supported by the Clarence Olander Fund and NCTM.
