What is Child Find?

Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities ages 3 to 21.

Who Can Refer?

  • Parents of preschool children who are not enrolled in a public school program and who have concerns about their child’s development
  • Health care providers
  • Community agencies
  • Childcare programs
  • Social workers
  • Parents of school age children (ages 5 -21) not enrolled in a public school program but suspect an educational disabilit

What is the Process?

Team will conduct a review of available information and developmental screening. If screening indicates possible delays, the child will be evaluated with parental consent. Eligibility determination meeting will be held and if eligible, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) written to address individual educational needs.

What is the cost?

Screening, evaluations, and any services determined to be necessary are provided free of charge.
