Adult Education program receives commendations in audit

The two-day visit looked at staff performance, record keeping, financial compliance with state and federal grants that fund adult education and assessment procedures for local, state and national tests.

Jacobs and the staff at Chesterfield County Adult Education were recently recognized as one of the top adult education programs in South Carolina by the state for testing, high school diploma graduates, GED diploma graduates, and career readiness certificates awarded.  This level of performance helped carry the program through this visit.

The compliance monitoring team gave commendations to CCAE for their high percentage of graduates.  “This is a great recognition for a small program,” says Jacobs. “Most of the commendations for graduation rates go to much larger programs.”

Commendations were also given for the evidenced based instructional practices utilized by the staff at CCAE.  The staff was also recognized for advancing digital literacy and digital citizenry into the curriculum for GED Diploma and High School Diploma students.  CCAE also received commendations for the flexible manner in which the program provides educational opportunities for the citizens of the Chesterfield County.

While the team gave an overwhelmingly positive evaluation of the program, they also gave some recommendations for ways that CCAE may continue to make strides in the educational opportunities provided to residents of Chesterfield County.  Jacobs said that she is proud of her staff and students for all of the hard work and commitment that they have shown for the last four years to Chesterfield County Adult Education.
