Garrison named Jefferson ES principal

She has served the school district in multiple roles ranging from long-term substitute teacher, classroom teacher, Gifted and Talented classroom teacher, Literacy Coach to summer school administrator. She has attended as well as presented at multiple professional conferences in Chesterfield, throughout the state and throughout the country. In 2019, Mrs. Garrison was recognized as the Chesterfield County School District Teacher of the Year. In addition, Mrs. Garrison has served throughout the Jefferson community at her church, at community day camps and as a coach of several sports for children.

In 1993, Mrs. Garrison earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University. In 1996, she earned a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. She continued her education and earned a Gifted and Talented Endorsement along with a National Board Certification. In 2008, Mrs. Garrison earned a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. She is licensed in the state of South Carolina to serve as an elementary principal and supervisor.

When asked what she looks forward to in her new role, Mrs. Garrison responded, “I am most looking forward to working with the caring, talented Jefferson family as we focus on what's most important for all students, to feel loved and experience success.” She went on to state, “All members of the JES family, students, staff and community can expect me to be a leader who values each person and their contributions, as well as someone who is committed to the success of the Bluejay Family.” 

When asked about hiring Mrs. Garrison to be the principal of Jefferson Elementary,  Superintendent Dr. Harrison Goodwin stated, “Mrs. Garrison is a fantastic fit for Jefferson Elementary. Her classroom and leadership experience in the school and within the community, coupled with her participation at the district, state and national levels have prepared her to lead Jefferson Elementary to unprecedented heights. Mrs. Garrison will officially begin in her new role on July 1, 2021. The Jefferson Community, staff, students and I are excited to have her on board in the principal role.”
