Byrd has been teaching with the district for 11 years with her most recent years at McBee High School. She said that her heart has always been led to help others which ultimately led to her entering the field of education. “I am honored to be selected as the Teacher of the Year for Chesterfield County School District. I look forward to working with all the teachers and staff in Chesterfield County for our students. Teaching is a work of heart that requires all of us to correlate our efforts for the betterment of our students.”
Her principal, Ms. Carolyn Caldwell had this to say, “Mrs. Byrd is the kind of teacher that every principal wants in front of their students and every parent wants their child to have. Beyond being a highly effective educator, she is also an extremely caring educator. Mrs. Byrd’s relationship with her students goes beyond their time in her classroom. She will check on them to make sure that they are doing what they are supposed to do in other classes and if they are not she will talk to them and work with them to help them be successful. Jennifer Byrd is that teacher/mother figure that many children need in their lives, one they will remember beyond their school years.”
Chesterfield County School District Superintendent Dr. Harrison Goodwin said that Byrd represents her peers well. “She is indicative of the kind of teachers we have in the county,” he says. “They care about their students and work tirelessly every day to help those students be successful.”
