The Office of Educator Effectiveness and Leadership Development welcomed 19 school leaders to the new South Carolina School Leadership Executive Institute (SLEI) cohort on Friday, September 20th.

The new class arrived on Friday and immediately began their SLEI journey. They participated in introductory and team-building activities, developed cohort norms, discussed and analyzed the SC Leadership Competencies, toured the new SCDE offices, and met with State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver.

The South Carolina School Leadership Executive Institute (SLEI) stands out with its unique partnership with the Truist Leadership Institute. This collaboration is specifically designed to equip veteran principals from districts across the state with the insight, knowledge, and competencies necessary to lead innovative and successful schools.

Our incoming class is a rich tapestry of experience and expertise. Among the cohort members are a former Project Lead The Way instructor, District Teachers of the Year, an adult education director, and national board teachers. One of the cohort members leads a National Blue Ribbon School. The cohort also includes avid book readers, an adjunct professor, and a US Marine, each bringing their unique perspective to the group.

The school leaders in SLEI 53, representing 13 SC school districts, include nine elementary school leaders, six middle school leaders, and five high school leaders.

The diverse members of SLEI 53 represent a wide range of SC cities and towns, including Anderson, Charleston, Moncks Corner, Hanahan, Summerville, Elgin, Bennettsville, Chesterfield, Cheraw, Lexington, Holly Hill, Columbia, Irmo, Inman, Sumter, Florence, and Fort Mill, bring a rich tapestry of experience and expertise to the program.

Dr. Gerard Edwards, SLEI facilitator and SCDE Education Associate, expressed his confidence in the members of SLEI 53. He believes that they will not only participate in the activities at Truist Leadership with vigor and engage passionately during each SLEI session, but also make lifelong connections with their fellow school leaders, enhancing the value of the program.
