Chesterfield County School District earns Excellent rating

“Having the actual scores released confirming those projections allows us to reflect on our accomplishments and compare ourselves to other schools and districts across the state,” says Goodwin.

He added that the accomplishments of the county schools and the district on the state report card validates his staff’s belief that the district should be focused on maximum student achievement, regardless of ability, socioeconomic background, or class.

“The hard work of our teachers and staff is making this belief a reality for the children of Chesterfield County,” he says.

“Each day, all over Chesterfield County, we have teachers, administrators, and support staff members who are dedicated to making our district the best we can be and the accomplishments on the state report card are a testament of this dedication,” Goodwin adds. “We have much to celebrate and be thankful for as we reflect on these ratings. “

The number of schools in the district that posted “excellent” scores was the highest since the report cards were first introduced in 2001. Also worth noting is that Central High School achieved its first excellent rating. Scoring “excellent” on this year’s report card were:

·       Petersburg Primary

·       Cheraw Primary

·       Jefferson Elementary

·       Ruby Elementary

·       Central High

·       Cheraw High

·       Chesterfield High

·       McBee High

In addition, as noted on the chart below, Chesterfield County School District continues a three-year trend of increasing the number of schools with “excellent” ratings.

“We have accomplished a lot during the past few years but we still have many challenges to face,” says Goodwin.  “With the adoption of new standards and assessments, we have to be sure that our students and all of our staff are focused on maximum achievement for all students.”
