District Teachers Represent State on National Panel

Dr. Allen Diggs, an ESOL teacher in the district, and Sandra Perkins, an eighth-grade Math teacher at Long Middle School, recently represented the state of South Carolina on a national panel conducting an alignment study on the WiDA (World Class Instructional Design and Assessment) Standards for English Language Learners. The study was conducted in Madison, Wisconsin on April 8-10, and included more than forty educators from eighteen states. Panel participants sought to determine the alignment between the WiDA Standards and the Framework for English Language Proficiency Development Standards. Dr. Diggs was also chosen by WiDA to serve as one of the group leaders for the study.
