Area students attend 'Tiger Read'

Fifteen Chesterfield County School District Reading Recovery students traveled to Clemson University to participate in Tigers Read on May 3.
Tigers Read is a yearly event sponsored by Clemson’s Reading Recovery Training Center and Head Football Coach Dabo’s All In Team Foundation. Reading Recovery students were greeted at the entrance of the football practice facility by the Tiger band playing the fight song. Students shook hands with several of the football players, the Tiger, and Clifford. After being seated, the students were welcomed by the founding Dean of Clemson’s College of Education, George Peterson and Kathleen Swinney. The football players shared a read aloud and talked with the students about the importance of reading and doing your best in school. Each student was given a backpack filled with books for summer reading. After the presentation, students were treated to a lunch of hotdogs, chips and tiger pound cake outside on the lawn beside the baseball stadium.
The students were accompanied by CCSD Reading Recovery teachers and district administrators.

Students were chosen to participate by the Reading Recovery Training Center based on their success in the Reading Recovery program.
