Central High JROTC receives grant

Pictured in the top photo from right to left are Cadets Kevin McCammon, Leander Byars, Jaylen Wilson and Darrius Sellers conducting marksmanship in the MCJROTC classroom which is part of the syllabus. The Pellets and bi-pods are used by the Central High School MCJROTC class and the Air Rifle Team, a total of 85 students within the MCJROTC program. This Grant from the NRA is not only given to aid financially challenged programs, but also to promote gun safety and individual citizen second amendment rights. All students in the MCJROTC program receive classes on gun safety, handling and marksmanship, and then conduct actual live fire of air rifles for practice and then qualification. The Marksmanship Course lasts approximately two weeks.

The Central High School MCJROTC Air Rifle Team competes for most of the school year in various tournaments and head to head matches against schools in the local area to as far away as Charlotte , East Gaston and Newton-Conover.
