District announces two new administrative appointments

Suggs returns back to Edwards Elementary after serving as the principal at Ruby Elementary School for the past five years. Prior to that, Suggs was both an assistant principal and a teacher at Edwards.

“Mrs. Suggs has done an outstanding job of building a top performing elementary school at Ruby where they have ranked in the top 5% of elementary schools in the state the last two years, have received numerous Gold and Silver awards, and were recognized this year as a semifinalist for the prestigious Palmetto’s Finest Award,” says Superintendent of Schools Dr. Harrison Goodwin. “She has set Ruby up for a future of success and it is my belief that her skills and leadership ability will be a great asset to Edwards Elementary.”

Folsom has been the principal at Jefferson Elementary School for the past ten years. During her tenure at there, Jefferson Elementary has been marked by consistent academic improvement with the culmination being "Excellent" on the school report card in 2012, 2013 and 2014.  In addition, Jefferson Elementary received a rating of "A" on its ESEA rating in 2012, 2013 and 2014

Jefferson Elementary also received a Palmetto Gold/Silver Award seven times and this year was recognized as a Palmetto's Finest Semi-Finalist, as well as a National Title I Distinguished School.

Goodwin said that Folsom has the perfect background for her new position with the district.

“Mrs. Folsom has had extensive experience in working with children of poverty and has had extensive training in curriculum and instruction,” he says. “We are confident that she has the knowledge, drive and determination to assist our district in our pursuit of excellence.”
