Chesterfield County School District recently held its first Zoom meeting with 22 newly hired educators in the county. The event was hosted by Dr. Chan Anderson, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Planning, and Dr. Nikki Miller, Coordinator of Educator Effectiveness.
Many ways in which we operate schools has changed since COVID-19, including how to ensure that our children are continued to be fed, just as they are in the physical schools. Missy Brown, Food Service Director for Chesterfield County School District, along with her staff, took the challenge head on when school buildings were closed in mid-March.
We would like to take this opportunity to give you an update on our 2020 graduation plans. First, we would like to thank Governor McMaster and Superintendent Spearman for their efforts to allow the 2020 Graduating Class to have a graduation ceremony that is both meaningful and memorable. Based on feedback the administration received from graduates, their families and our School Board, it is obvious that an in-person ceremony is the overwhelming choice.
Chesterfield County School District will be holding a modified graduation at each of the four high schools on Friday, May 29. The ceremonies will be held in each school’s football stadium and Saturday, May 30 will be the inclement weather day. More details on the graduation ceremonies will be forthcoming soon.
Recruitment for the next cohort of NetSERVE Teacher Residents is underway! Teacher Residents benefit from a 50% tuition reduction, 30 hour streamlined pathway to earning a Master of Arts in Teaching and licensure credentials to teach in South Carolina schools; a year-long $20,000 stipend supported internship; and a job placement guarantee in one of three high-needs, rural partner school districts.
We would like to update you on the pickup of this week’s instructional packets at your schools. Instructional packets can be picked up Wednesday, April 29th. Packets will include work for April 29th through May 12th. All previous work that is completed should be turned in when you come to pick up new packets. Please follow the directions provided at each school. Thank you for your cooperation as we work through this unusual situation.
The exceptional Food Services Department of Chesterfield County School District will continue to have those healthy meals available for the children of Chesterfield County. For the week of April 27th, meals will be available beginning tomorrow, Monday through Wednesday. Breakfast and lunch for Thursdays and Fridays will also be given out on Wednesdays.
